Toilet: Ek Prem Katha; Documentary maker Praveen Vyas takes legal action against makers
As per latest reports, Shree Narayan Singh’s satirical romcom Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, featuring Khiladi Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead, looked unconquerable on its way to the release given that it was supported by Indian PM Mr. Narendra Modi. But at the moment, the movie, which focuses on Modi’s gigantic mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, has made entry onto the road of legal trouble.
The reports added up that documentary film producer Praveen Vyas has taken legal action against the producers of the movie for supposedly copying the story and scenes from his docudrama Manini, which was considered as the third preeminent movie out of the 4,500 film entries presented on the topic of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan at the Goa held International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in the year 2016.
The similar report indicated that Praveen propose his argument to the creation and distribution team of the flick, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. However Shital Bhatia, co-maker of the film and co-founder of Friday Filmworks, lashed out at the so called accusations.
In a statement, he stated, “These allegations are baseless and border on nuisance. The script of our film has been recorded under our writers’ names, Siddharth and Garima, with the authorized industry connection since 2013. In addition, the movie has been in the community domain via various news tales since July 2015. We definitely deny all the claims made by this gentleman who is obviously misled. It is depressing that real makers have become soft objectives for this kind of annoyance.”
Refusing to budge, Vyas has sent a legal notice and a cease and desist notice to the makers. The report quotes him as saying, “Manini follows the female protagonist as she protests against lack of a toilet in her marital home on the first night of her marriage after female relatives wake her up before sunrise to tend to nature’s call in an open field. The scenes in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’s trailer shows the same interaction between characters.”
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is all set to hit theaters on 11 August.
